Women in India
Posted July 30th, 2009 by lagolaI am currently traveling with Dr. Suzanne Feeney with a group of eight women students, in a field experience examining women's development, empowerment and micro-finance as its practiced in India. Well practiced in a small are in India primarily in and around Pune. Suzanne has been studying this issue for many years and in 2007 she took her first group of students with me functioning in a supporting role. Students arrive today to begin the program and we've been putting last minute touches on our schedule.
Creativity in Challenging Times
Posted July 15th, 2009 by lagolaSo in a recent Oregonian (yes I still read the paper) there was a fascinating article on how a small group of women had come together to form the "Joy Adventure Club" with the stated purpose or raising money for food related charities. Their first event raised $1000 for the Oregon Food Bank and 100 women attended. I'm guessing that between word of mouth and media exposure, this relatively modest brainchild will have a major growth spurt.
